Dawnside Farm – Afritan tannery | Dundee, KwaZulu Natal
Nguni hides are an assortment of rich colours and patterns. The van Heerden family started farming Nguni cattle in 1984, and Dawnside farm and AfriTan tannery were established in 2002.
The tannery tans in excess of 100 Nguni hides a week as well as game skins that Taxidermists and hunters send in for tanning. The tannery has an average turnaround time of 3 months.
Nguni hides are highly functional and are used as rugs and furniture coverings. A new line has also been added to the tannery … the demand for Nguni home décor has grown and they make mats, cushions and ottomans.
