The Damara breed of sheep is ideally suited to conditions in the Free State. It’s the low fat content of the skin and the superb fineness of the grain of the skin that makes Damara leather the best quality in the world. This fact is backed up by a study carried out by the International School of Tanning Technology and the Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute.

They were established in 1999 and process hides and other byproducts of the group’s abattoirs. EAC Tannery provides private abattoirs around the country a stable market for their raw hides, which are collected all around the country for tanning purposes. Their speciality is wet blue tanning of Bovine hides and they do Wet White tanning for the motor industry.
They also import hides, processing them to the Wet Blue stage and then export the hides to several countries.
Hides are put through a drying machine before being packed. The finished products are mainly used in the motor industry, local and overseas.

They started in 1987 and their taxidermy business started on the farm De Moed. A curio shop is also found on the farm and you will find various skins and leather goods for sale amongst other interesting things.
Leather jackets, rifle bags, handbags, belts and other items are manufactured on the farm, which has been approved by provincial and national veterinary.
De Moed Taxidermy is one of the best in the country with many clients abroad.
